Easter celebrations, songwriting workshop highlight weekend

Easter egg hunts and activities on Saturday will keep little kids happy and entertained, while adults might enjoy the folk concert Saturday night at A Center for the Arts. Saturday: – 8 a.m. Eighth Annual Easter Egg Hunt, KMart. Children ages 10 and under are invited to search for plastic Easter eggs hidden in the store. The store asks that each child only take one egg, which can then be redeemed for treats and entry in a 10 a.m. drawing. Prizes for the drawing include a bike, color game boy, Furby and an Easter basket. For more information contact K-Mart at 739-4454. – 10 a.m. Electric Guitar Demonstration, Public Library. Young people are welcome to learn more about the electric guitar at this hour demonstration by Hoxderthorne band member Jesse Thorstad. For more information contact the library at 739-9387. – 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Annual Easter Carnival, WestRidge Mall. Kids can meet the Easter Bunny, make Easter crafts, enter the Peep eating contest and visit the petting zoo. There will also be an egg toss, bunny hop and a cupcake walk. – Noon-2:30 p.m. Young People Chess Tournament, Public Library. The tournament is open to children in elementary and secondary school. For more information contact the library at 739-9387. – 4 p.m. Songwriting and Harp Workshop, A Center for the Arts. Diane Jarvi will teach participants about songwriting and she will also perform on her Finnish folk harp, the kantele. For tickets or information about the workshop contact A Center for the Arts at 736-5453. – 7:30 p.m. Diane Jarvi Concert, A Center for the Arts. The songwriter, guitarist and Finnish folk harp player will perform folk music. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students and $20 for the family.
