Darrell Scott, father of Rachel Joy Scott, one of the students murdered at Columbine High School, Littleton, Colo., in April 1999, will be speaking at 7 p.m., Sept. 14, in the Fergus Falls Middle School Auditorium. Scott’s son, Craig, was in the library at the time of the shooting but miraculously survived, though he witnessed 10 classmates being shot to death. Scott has spoken to millions of people over the last several months. He has appeared on national television, met with President Clinton and meets regularly with governors, senators and congressmen. Scott has also testified before the sub-committee on crime of the House Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C. In his testimony, Scott said, &uot; The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the death of the heroic teacher and other children who died, must not be in vain.&uot; His testimony also indicated restrictive legislation and political posturing are not the answers: the young people of our nation hold the key. He doesn’t believe we need more religion but rather a change of heart and a commitment to live by some basic principles. Admission is $7 for adults and $4 for students. Tickets are available at Community Youth Partners, Community First Bank, Security State Bank, Norwest Bank, all in Fergus Falls, and some area banks.
