FF named among best small cities in country

Demographics Daily, an online newsletter, recently named Fergus Falls one of the best small cities in America. Fergus Falls is in the group of 141 &uot;dreamtowns,&uot; the places with the highest scores. Fergus Falls came in 107th, with an overall score of 82.12. It ranked highest in small-town character with a score of 95.65. Demographics daily rated the quality of life in 632 small cities with populations between 10,000 and 50,000. Most were outside metropolitan areas, while a few were in small metros or on the sparsely settled fringes of larger metros. &uot;Our goal was to provide … a list of small cities that offer relief from metropolitan hassles, and Fergus Falls is definitely on that list,&uot; said G. Scott Thomas, the newsletter’s editor. The cities were rated in eight categories: vitality, supply of good jobs, freedom from stress, connection to the cultural mainstream, support for schools, access to health care, low cost of living and small-town character. Final scores were computed on a 100-point scale. Cities with scores above 80 classified as dreamtowns.
