Jeweler keeps family business ticking

Some larger chains don’t have good reputations, and their staffs change often. Of the five employed at Kraning Jewelry, Kraning said there has been only one change in the last 10 years. In the future, Kraning said independent retailers will still have a good foothold in America, especially with several large companies facing difficulties in the past year. &uot;I think the future looks good,&uot; he said. Kraning has noticed that some people don’t know that jewelry stores carry more than just jewelry. Like the old jewelry stores, Kraning Jewelry has watches, china, a baby department, music boxes, clocks and a host of other items. They do full repair, engraving and design. Kraning likes the downtown location. &uot;When people come here, they come looking for us,&uot; he said. &uot;I think Fergus Falls has a real bright future.
