Mel Olson was a champion for the animals of the county
Published 12:00am Monday, July 17, 2006Mel was not only a pivotal force in securing funds to eliminate the shelter’s mortgage, but was on the front lines helping to pass new animal anti-cruelty laws. He also actively encouraged people to remember the Humane Society in their wills, yet again aiding the shelter’s financial security. John Donne once wrote, “When one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book. but translated into a better language.” We remember and celebrate Mel as he was: an extraordinary man, a rescuer of animals, and above all, our friend.
