Pelican Rapids 59 over Barnesville

PELICAN RAPIDS — The Vikings and Trojans locked horns for most of the game, but Pelican Rapids pulled away at the end to grab an important Heart O’ Lakes conference win.

Barnesville got off to an early start, but the Vikings closed the gap to trail at halftime, 27-26. After the break, both teams continued to battle to the end. Barnsville finished with 25 rebounds to the Vikings 24.

Pelican Rapids was able to capitalize on free throws down the stretch. Both teams were close in personal fouls, however, the Vikings nailed 72 percent from the line while the Trojans managed just 26 percent.

Tydan Storrusten led the way for Pelican Rapids, pouring in 21 points. Todd Johnson added 12 points. Eric Shulstad delivered 11 points and eight rebounds.

Brent Halvorson netted 18 points in the loss for Barnesville.

The Vikings improved to 2-4 in conference, 5-5 overall, with their next game 7:30 p.m. Friday against Staples-Motley.
