School buildings are just fine
Published 12:00pm Friday, April 27, 2007It’s that time of year again. Time to vote once again on major school bond issue. It’s not that I am against having a nice school, just that I’m against wasteful spending.
First, we apparently need to add on to the middle school and Cleveland because they are not big enough, yet we will tear down the majority of the senior high because there is no further use for it. Why tear down a good structure and pay huge dollars to add onto others?
Now, one should not knock an idea unless they have an alternative to produce. I have one. The middle school needs additions to hold grades six through 12. Why not put these in the senior high? Cleveland does not have enough room for grades three through five.
Let’s put these in the middle school.
The district offices and the ALC should fit nicely in the Cleveland school building. This would also give the ALC a small gymnasium to use.
Let’s put a little more common sense into this. Fancy buildings may look nice, but I don’t believe it will help our students learn more or better. Besides, I feel we have some pretty magnificent buildings now.
