“Beauty and the Beast” was very impressive

“Beauty and the Beast” just completed a run of seven performances at the Fergus Falls Middle School Auditorium. I don’t believe that I have ever been more impressed with a musical production during the past 50 years in which I have been privileged to view many performances on Broadway, in Chicago, Minneapolis and Naples, Florida.

The direction and choreography contributed by Scott Brusven was amazing. Fergus Falls can be very proud of the capabilities and contributions of their native son. Musical direction by Michelle Danielson, and orchestra direction by Mark Solie was superb. They can both be very proud and pleased with the proteges and students that they have helped to develop in our own community. Many other local citizens contributed in large measure to the overall excellence of the production. The energy that was projected during the entire performance was outstanding.

We are fortunate that Scott Brusven has agreed to direct the “Razzle Dazzle Revue” performance which will occur at The Center’s Fergus Theatre in early April, 2008. The first “Razzle Dazzle” this spring was an artistic success. We plan for increased attendance next spring.

As a member of The Center for several years, I was at times unclear as to the true role of A Center for the Arts in our community. I now serve on the board and together we continue to ponder this question. It was during last week’s production that I had and epiphany. The ability to produce “Beauty and the Beast” affirmed to me a major role of The Center and the justification of its existence as an arts catalyst in Fergus Falls. The opportunity for the artists to participate in a production this wonderful, as well as for audience appreciation validates the function of The Center.

We encourage our local citizens to enjoy all of the presentations of The Center. Membership in The Center is not necessary for ticket purchase. A certain level of membership, however, is essential to insure the continuing presence of this entity in our community.
