Brownies go ‘green’

Published 6:00am Saturday, February 23, 2008

Local Brownie Girl Scout Troop 30184 received a visit from Miss Heart of the Lakes Princess, Tara Greiman, who spoke at the troops’ February meeting.

Greiman is a student at the University of Minnesota, Morris, majoring in biology and environmental studies. She spoke to the troop about the environment and how to save energy.

Environmental issues are something Tara is passionate about, and she also tackles the subject as her pageant platform.

The third-year Brownies are working to earn their “Earth is our home” patch. The girls learned about recycling, turning off lights and appliances that aren’t being used, using energy efficient light bulbs and bringing along your own bags when you go shopping.

Greiman ended her talk by reading “the Lorax,” by Dr. Suess to the troop and handing out Minnesota native black-eyed susans for the girls to plant in the spring.

In June, Tara will be in the Miss Minnesota America pageant.
