Perham teams sweep Hawley Booster

HAWLEY – The Perham boys and girls’ track and field teams captured top honors Tuesday in the Hawley Booster.

Maddie McClellan claimed two titles and three of her teammates each gained one as the Perham girls racked up 107 points in a 15-team field of Minnesota and North Dakota schools.

McClellan ran the 800 in 2:29.19 and won the 1,600 with a 5:24.94.

Perham’s Abby Anderson ran a winning 11:33.56 in the 3,200 run.

Heather Schultz and Elisa Moenkedick won the shot put and discus. Schultz put the shot 36 feet while Moenkedick tossed the discus 128-11.

Lake Park-Audubon’s Ashley Tingelstad won the 100, 200 and 400 dash events.

Barnesville-Rothsay’s Conner Lewis went 8-6 to win the pole vault.

Earning runner-up honors were Pelican Rapids’ Maria Kunz in the high jump (4-6), Barnesville-Rothsay’s Kasey Lewis in the long jump (15-2), Otter Tail Central’s Kristen Gronbeck in the 1,600 (5:45.79) and New York Mills’ Alicia Boe in the 3,200 (11:55.58). Perham’s 4×400 relay team ran a runner-up time of 4:29.30.

Perham won the 14-team boys’ meet with 103 points behind three individual firsts and one relay victory.

Kevin Lachowitzer and Justin Tellinghuisen went 1-2 in the 1,600 with times of 4:31.70 and 4:40.65. Eddie Stenger and Alex Barney dominated the 3,200 with ties of 9:56.55 and 10:40.25.

Jacob Hunter ran a winning 16.40 time in the 110 hurdles.

The Yellowjackets dominated the 4×800 relay with an 8:43.89.

Barnesville-Rothsay’s Derek Jordahl was the triple jump champ with a 39-8. New York Mills’ Brandon Menze won the discus with a 125-9 effort.

Lance Erickson and Matthew Haugen gave Pelican Rapids a pair of runner-up finishes. Erickson was second in the shot with a 42-4. Haugen cleared six feet in the high jump.

Other runner-up spots were grabbed by Perham’s Tristan Covington in the 800 (2:04.42), Perham’s Charlie Schmitz in the pole vault (11 feet) and Perham’s 4×400 relay team, which ran a 3:41.60.
