Hemlines, silhouettes highlight May meeting
Published 6:00am Saturday, May 24, 2008“Length and Width: Hemlines and Silhouettes from the 1920′s through the 1970s” was the topic of the program at the Battle Lake Art of the Lakes May meeting. It was a fun and informative evening with pictures and descriptions of women’s clothing styles from the past several decades.
Jean Crandall McElvain, assistant curator of the Goldstein Museum of Design, University of Minnesota, was the speaker. The museum in St. Paul has a collection of 15,000 pieces.
The next meeting of Art of the Lakes is June 17 at 7 p.m. with David Hagen doing a woodturning presentation. The public is invited.
The featured artist for June 1-15 is Jan Smith.
