Published 6:00am Saturday, May 17, 2008 Updated 4:13pm Tuesday, August 10, 2010

The annual meeting of the Fergus Falls Senior Citizens Program was conducted May 9, with five incumbants: Dorothy Donley, Rosann Sauck, Dolores Saurer, Larry Streif and Jim Sylte and two new members: Annette Contos and Bev Klawitter elected to the board of directors for three-year terms.

Immediately after the annual meeting, the new board assembled for an organizational meeting with the following elected to the executive board for the next year: Dolores Saurer, president; Mel Bjone, vice president; Dorothy Donley, secretary; and Jim Sylte, treasurer.

Looking at next week, we have our final meeting of the school year with our Adopt-a-Class third-grade students of Lynette Ringquist at Cleveland School. They will be visiting the Senior Center on Tuesday, May 20, for an exchange of May baskets.

The students may also share with the seniors a project that they have been working on at school. We congratulate the students on completing the third grade and wish them well as they move on to grade four.

Community Education will offer the four-hour Driver Improvement Refresher Class at the ALC on the 21st from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Register and pay the $18 fee in the Community Ed office. For more information, call 998-0544, Ext. 1600.

It’s birthday party time for our members born in May next Thursday. Enjoy the music of the Sons of Norway chorus at 11:15 a.m. Be sure to make an advance reservation and bring your appetite if you plan to stay for the noon meal afterward featuring a delicious turkey dinner.

The following week on Wednesday, May 28, Attorney Jamison (Jay) Cichosz will be at the Senior Center beginning at 1:00 p.m. to assist you with legal questions you have regarding wills, trusts, estate planning, elder law or other legal issues.

There is no charge for this consultation but an appointment is necessary and may be made by calling 736-6842.

It’s a cloudy day as I write this column. Since the sun is not shining, how about another type of day brightener? “Smile — it’s the key that fits the lock to everybody’s heart.”

Dolores Saurer is a member of the Fergus Falls Senior Citizen Center.
