The Cancer Care and Research Center project set to begin this fall will be constructed on an existing employee parking lot.

To provide off-street parking replacement areas, Lake Region Healthcare’s Board of Trustees has announced the construction of a new 70-space parking lot on the half-block off Mill Street between Alcott and Vasa Avenues.

Parking improvements and demand of Lake Region Healthcare continue to be evaluated as part of the hospital’s long range plan.

“This new lot enables us to improve parking for staff and patients and will help alleviate current parking on streets,” said Steve Rufer, the hospital’s Board of Trustees chair. “We are continuing to work hard at being good neighbors.”

Four houses will be removed, with one of them donated to Children’s Corner Learning Center for use as a day care for infants.

Mike Johnson, plant operations manager at Lake Region Hospital helped design the improved parking areas.

“This lot will be heavily utilized as it allows closer access to the hospital for employees then they had with the south parking lot,” Johnson said.

“We are able to create a parking area that has beautiful landscape surrounding it, continuing to give it a neighborhood look.”

The parking lot project will begin Monday and is expected to be completed by late fall.
