Published 12:38am Saturday, September 6, 2008The Barnesville football team rebounded nicely from last week’s loss, defeating the visiting Frazee Hornets 46-21 Friday night.
The Trojans were unstoppable on the ground, racking up 356 yards rushing on 48 attempts and seven touchdowns. Running back Zach Hochhalter led the way with 151 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Bryce Schmaltz carried the ball nine times for 81 yards and one touchdown, while Jacob Grosz ran the ball seven times for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Grosz also had two receptions for 34 yards.
The Barnseville coaching staff was pleased by what their kids did on the field Friday, and hope they can carry that momentum into next week’s game against Blackduck.
“We struggled last week big time,” said assistant coach Tracy Hinsz. “This week we really worked on hitting the holes quicker and maintaining our blocks. It sure paid off for us tonight.”
The Trojans fumbled the ball four times during the game, losing two. Hinsz said the team wouls be addressing turnovers in practice before the next game.
“We need to shore up on the fumbles, but 48 carries for 356 yards says quite a bit of what these kids came out with tonight,” he said. “It was a good night offensively, and defensively, the team really picked it up as well. It was a nice win after a struggle last week. We just have to keep building on it from here.”
