Girls Volleyball

Hillcrest comes up short against Henning:

Ahna Lacey had seven kills and Andrea Christenson chipped in four kills and was 10/11 at the service line, but the Comet Volleyball team came up short against Henning Tuesday, 25-16, 25-16, 25-16.

“The girls were scrappy tonight, they went after the ball,” said Comet coach Carrie Brue. “We had 30 digs as a team. We just need to continue to work hard, and keep trying.”

Taylor Brue led the Comets in set assists with 11.

Underwood 3, Ashby 0:

It was a big night for the Underwood Volleyball team, with the Rockets sweeping conference rival Ashby in three games, 25-16, 25-10 and 25-23.

Underwood is 11-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

“Our team played very well tonight,” said Rocket coach Diane Ross. “Defensively we kept the ball off the floor, as a team we had a .287 kill percentage and we served 96 percent.”

Aann Bjorklund led the offense with 15 kills, followed by Ellen Ferry with eight kills and Sam Huseth with seven.

Ariana Odegard led the Rockets with 33 assists, while Ellen Ferry had four ace blocks. Sam Huseth had 22 digs and was 14-14 at the service line with four aces.

Alex Floersch and Ariana Odegard each served 16-16, with Odegard picking up three aces. Jasmine Mertz served 11-11 with two aces.

“We felt like we were climbing out of a hole all night,” said Ashby coach Brenda Johnson. “We are a better team then we played. Underwood played well and didn’t let anything hit the floor.”

The Arrows were led by Emily Johnson’s nine digs and 25 assists. Alisha Sethre had 14 digs and 10 kills. Amanda Johnson had 20 digs and five kills.

The Rockets travel to Moorhead Thursday to play Park Christian and Ashby hosts Hillcrest.

FF netters fall to Rocori:

The Fergus Falls volleyball team dropped a match 1-3 in the Otters’ home gym Tuesday night.

The Otters used some slick passing in the opener and won the game 25-19 before losing the final three games 10-25, 15-25 and 18-25.

“We felt like we were in control after the first game,” said Otter coach Renee Erickson. “We passed the ball well and ran our offense.”

The team served well on the night going 62-67. They were led by Kelsie Johnson (15-15) and Ashley Thorsen (7-7). Kaitlin Larson had 2 aces.

Nikki Clouse had 12 digs. Mariah Monke had five blocks. Hattie Russell led the team with 17 set assists.

The team will play in St. Cloud Tech on Thursday.
