2nd goat found decapitated
Published 12:00pm Friday, October 10, 2008A Becker County man found the head-less body of a goat on his property Wednesday, roughly a month after a similar finding near New York Mills.
The man found the decapitated goat on his property west of Callaway after returning home from work, said Becker County Sheriff Tim Gordon.
Days earlier the man had seen the goat wandering nearby and decided to care for it until it was claimed.
When the animal was discovered Wednesday, it’s head was missing from the scene.
Gordon said the incident clearly was not the work of an animal, and the head still has not been found.
Gordon said whoever is responsible faces charges of animal cruelty and criminal damage to property.
It’s possible the incident was Halloween-related, he said.
“It’s been 15 to 20 years since we’ve had any kind of animal mutilation around here,” he said.
Members of a New York Mills family found one of their goats decapitated in early September.
The head had been cleanly severed and could not be located.
