Magical Moments hightlights many
Published 6:00am Saturday, October 11, 2008Last year we started a program that we called “Magical Moments in Music.” It was a chance to put many shorter pieces on a program of classical and “chamber” music and to give the audience (that would be you — we hope) the opportunity to hear from some of the musicians in the group.
This year’s “Magical Moments in Music” holds the subheading “Sweet Suites: Music 101 with Mark Solie and friends” and it’s happening at 4 p.m. today, at A Center for the Arts. The program is free and open to the public and we hope that many of you can join us.
Some familiar names on the program might include Laurie Strom, Dave Strom, Neal Page, Val (Pettit) Johnson, Sommer Robles, Joan Covington, Mark Solie and Rebecca Petersen (that’s me). All of these folks are teachers in the community, either at school music programs in private lessons. (We’re sad that Margie Eerdmans can’t play this time around. But two of her kids are playing.)
There are also other community members and members of the high school chamber orchestra. They include: Katie Strom, Joan Covington, Kelly Ross, Jordan Hoffbeck, Becky Stenstrom, Tiffany Thanel, Whitney Moore, Eddie Roberts, Sarah Jones, Katie Enderle, Erika Sutor, Billy Eerdmans, Kaytlin Sperling, Emma Childs, Kristin Erickson, Laura Riestenberg, Sam Wasberg, Andy Eerdmans, Hazen Roller Olson, Anders Spidahl, Joey Pettit.
It will be a fun afternoon so, take a break from your fall chores and join us downtown at A Center for the Arts, 124 West Lincoln Ave.
This free program is made possible by a grant from the Adams Family Foundation. There will be Sweet Suites and Sweet Treats for all in attendance.
It’s the first in many programs coming up this year that will feature chamber music, orchestral music and classical music. Magical Moments In Music will inspire you to get even more enjoyment and information out of these upcoming programs.
They include Oct. 21, when the FM Opera comes to town for their Rush Hour 5:15 p.m. program featuring A Center for the Arts’ Children’s Choir and Opera Highlights from Don Giovanni.
Later that week, on Oct. 24, Cellist Matt Haimovitz and Violinist Andy Simionescu come to A Center for the Arts for an evening of chamber music. This program is sponsored in part by The Fergus Falls Concert Association. Concert Association Members receive a $4 discount on tickets. (Adults are $12 in advance/Students are $5).
In November, the FM Symphony String Quartet brings a wonderful program of purely quartet musical excerpts with some talking points in an informal and educational setting 7 p.m. Nov. 23; and then on Dec. 21, the FM Symphony Holiday Pops Concert returns to A Center for the Arts at 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale now.
