Duo: Clients come first

With the opening of 715 Hot Heads, owners Lauren Carlson and Becca Sytsma say they have one goal: to create a salon environment that is completely client-centered.

“We just want to give the community a taste of something different,” Sytsma said, standing in the pair’s newly-opened salon last week.

“And completely focused on them,” Carlson said. “It’s not about us.”

Former stylists at Trendz Hair Lounge, Carlson, 23, and Sytsma, 26, began work on their new space in October. A month later, their suite at 715 Pebble Lake Road has new wiring, fresh paint and three additional rooms. Carlson and Sytsma have been seeing clients there since early November.

“Hearing from clients was so overwhelming,” Sytsma said.

“Clients that we hadn’t seen in months were popping in.”

715 Hot Heads offers cuts, colors and other hair services, as well as a stand-up tanning capsule and private waxing room. Spray tanning will be available by mid-December.

Carlson and Sytsma say they share the same vision for the salon, though they had different entries into the hair business.

“I thought (styling) hair would get me through college,” said Sytsma, who’d planned to go into the medical field. A Pelican Rapids native, Sytsma has been in the business for seven years.

Carlson, who hails from Fergus Falls, has been styling hair for three and a half years.

“I knew I wanted to open a salon someday,” she said.

715 Hot Heads will host a grand opening celebration the week of Jan. 5, featuring discounts, tanning packages and drawings.
