2 arrested after Perham schools truck stolen
Published 6:38am Thursday, December 4, 2008PERHAM, Minn. (AP) _ Two 17-year-old boys were arrested after rolling a pick-up truck that was reported stolen from the Perham-Dent School District.
Perham Police Chief Brian Nelson says the boys were riding their bikes when they came upon the district truck parked in the high school parking lot.
The truck keys were hidden, but the boys found them. They drove the truck about 15 miles to New York Mills and were on their way back when the vehicle rolled.
Police say the truck was going more than 85 mph when it crashed about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday. Neither boy was wearing a seatbelt, but they were able to run away from the crash – until officers caught up with them.
Nelson says it’s a miracle the boys weren’t seriously hurt.
Prosecutors are expected to file auto theft charges.
