Free tax help offered to seniors citizens
Published 6:00am Saturday, January 24, 2009Is it possible? It’s that time again to think about taxes. And yes, free tax assistance will be offered at the Senior Center through Tax Counseling for the Elderly.
The program begins on Feb. 2, by appointment, and counselors will be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Call 736-6842, Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and noon for your reservation. In the afternoons, call 211 to make your reservation.
You may have heard about the new Lakeland Hospice House in Fergus Falls and on Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 11:30 a.m. you will have an opportunity to learn all about it from Mary Widiger.
Lakeland Hospice and Home Care began building the Lakeland Hospice House in October for people who are facing terminal illness and who are unable to be cared for at home, thus giving people in the community another option beside going into a nursing home for care.
It is anticipated that the facility will be completed later this year.
If you plan to stay for the noon meal featuring roast beef after the seminar, please call for a reservation in advance.
Are you due for the Driver Improvement Refresher? Community Education is offering the class on Jan. 28 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the ALC. Completion of the Refresher allows you to continue the ten percent discount on your vehicle insurance for another three year period.
(You must, of course, have completed the full 8-hour class previously.) Register and pay the $18 fee in the Community Ed office. Phone 998-0544, Ext. 1600.
A reminder — Please keep saving your SunMart grocery receipts for the Activity Fund at the Senior Center. We are only $25,000 away from reaching our goal of $150,000 and a bonus of $1,000. Drop off your receipts at the Senior Center office.
The informational class for Automated External Defibrillator (AED) which was scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 20, has been re-scheduled for Feb. 2 at 11:30 a.m.
It’s a little difficult to think about trips when we are still knee-deep in snow but we do have our first trip of the season scheduled for the Chanhassen Dinner Theater on April 11.
The play, “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” is a classic boy meets girl love story that will put a smile on your face. You’ll enjoy this musical comedy with great choreography and music that keeps you humming. Mark your calendar and I’ll have more details on this later.
