BARNESVILLE-The Perham Lady Yellowjackets, led by 17 points and four rebounds from Tara Sailer and 16 points, five boards and three steals from Elisa Moenkedick, overcame a sluggish start in the first half to outlast the Barnesville Lady Trojans 67-44 Friday.

The Yellowjackets led by just nine points at the half 26-17.

“We picked up our defensive intensity quite a bit in the second half,” said Perham head coach Keith Johnson. “We turned some Barnesville turnovers into transition baskets. We decided to tell them where they were going to go on our defense instead of letting them go where they wanted.”

For the Yellowjackets, Katrina Moenkedick contributed 10 points and three steals, while Steph Miller distributed nine assists, three steals and chipped in with four points.

Siri Gylland and Katie Stenger led the Trojans with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Barnesville is now 6-14 overall and 5-10 against Heart O’ Lakes Conference teams. They will travel to play Lake Park-Audubon on Thursday.

Perham leads the HOL with a perfect 15-0 record and has a 19-1 overall mark. Their next game is a non-conference contest Monday at home against Park Christian School. Johnson said his team won’t look past an unfamiliar opponent.

“Park Christian is a decent team,” he said. “They’ve got some good post players, and it won’t be a walk in the park for us by any stretch.”
