‘April showers bring May flowers’

Published 6:00am Sunday, April 5, 2009

I just came in from checking my bird feeders. The snow is already above my knees and continues to fall with no end in sight. It’s Tuesday, March 31, as I write this column, so perhaps I did use the wrong quotation to start out with. Oh well, just think ahead and pretty soon–

Let’s check the Senior Center schedule for the next couple of weeks.

Next Thursday the Red Hats are getting up early, starting off with breakfast at Perkins at 9:30. They’ll be discusssing plans for future meetings as well as the possibility of another event later this month to attend the Fergus Falls High School play, “My Head is Butter,” at A Center for the Arts. Be at breakfast for the details.

Our Adopt-a-Class, Lynette Ringquist’s third graders at Cleveland School, will be visiting at the Center for bingo on April 13 at 1:15. This is part of our intergenerational program which both students and seniors always enjoy.

Jason Hastings, attorney, will again be at the Senior Center in April. If you wish an appointment for a free consultation on legal issues such as wills, trusts, estate planning or elder law, please call 736-6842.

Monday at the Movies on April 20 features “The Sixth Sense” which has been described as “a psychological drama with supernatural undertones.” It stars Bruce Willis as a child psychologist.

From 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22, Mike Alt, Jr., a financial advisor with Edward Jones, will present a seminar, “Outlook and Opportunities — Don’t Fear the Bear.”

This is an educational program geared to people who have a variety of investment experience. Topics to be included are inflation, real estate issues, recession and bear markets plus strategies for weathering uncertain markets. There is no cost to attend and sales pitches are not allowed. Call 736-6842 by April 20 to participate.

On April 10, in observance of Good Friday, the Senior Center offices will be closed and no activities are scheduled, including the exercise room. A noon meal featuring tuna casserole will be served.

Happy Easter to everyone!
