Fire destroys rural home
Published 12:00pm Wednesday, May 6, 2009An emotional Ann Moore arrived at her home Monday morning to discover it was engulfed in flames.
A call reporting a fire north of Dalton was made around 8:45 a.m. Monday to the Otter Tail County Sherriff’s Office.
Fire departments from Dalton, Underwood and Fergus Falls as well as the Otter Tail County Sherriff’s Office responded to the scene at 27502 180th St.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, said Dalton Fire Chief Eric Mounts.
No one was home when the fire started, according to Dalton Assistant Chief Philip Isaacson.
When Isaacson, who was the second vehicle to arrive at the scene, first witnessed the situation, flames had taken over, causing the roof to fully collapse.
Moore arrived at her home during the fire after receiving a call at Underwood School, where she works.
Her husband, Kelly Moore, later arrived at the site of his home.
“I’m just glad the kids weren’t home,” Ann said.
The Moore family has been in the home for eight years.
“We’ll be OK” Ann said. “We’ve got a lot of family and friends.”
Ann and Kelly Moore were later joined at the scene by their children, fellow family members and friends.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
A fund for the Kelly and Ann Moore family has been set up at Farmers State Bank in Underwood. Donations can be dropped off on site or sent to Farmers State Bank, PO Box 247, Underwood MN 56586.
