Park Rapids trip planned

Published 6:00am Sunday, May 31, 2009

A few warm days and it seems time to start thinking about another trip and we have one scheduled to Jasper’s Jubilee Theatre in Park Rapids on Thursday, Aug. 13. At Jasper’s you’ll find a unique blend of live music, magic and comedy that is fun for all ages. I checked out the reviews on the Internet and one comment seems to cover them all: “If laughter is good medicine, then the Jasper show is one big, healthy dose.”

So hop on the bus at Otter Tail Coaches parking lot and be ready to leave at 10 a.m. Arriving in Park Rapids, there will be a lunch stop at Schwartzwald Cafe. After the show, we’ll stop for a buffet supper at Cactus in Perham and then should arrive home about 6:45 p.m. Cost for this fun-filled trip, which includes transportation, supper and show, is $48 for members and $53 for non-members. Registration and payment must be made in the senior office by July 17.

Community Education is sponsoring the full 8-hour Driver Improvement Course on Tuesday and Thursday, June 9 and 11 from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m. at ALC. If you are a Minnesota resident, age 55 or older, you will be eligible for a 10 percent discount on your auto insurance for a three period upon completion of the course. Register and pay the $20 fee in the Community Ed office. Phone 998-0544, Ext. 1600.

John Armstrong will again be at the Senior Center for free ear wax check and hearing aid cleaning at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10. Call 736-6842 for an appointment.

A couple of reminders: The Red Hats are meeting at Perkins on Friday, June 5, for a 9:30 breakfast.

Don’t miss the movie, “Tuesdays with Morrie,” to be shown at the Senior Center at 12:45 on Monday, June 8.

Do you ever read the comics? A week or so ago, the old gent in the strip, “Pickles,” offered this philosophical comment:

“Life is like a beautiful melody, only most of the time you don’t remember the; words. Of course, you’re singing way off key, but then no one is listening anyway.”
