June 6 runners need support at start, finish

This year the Athletic Republic, a service of Lake Region Healthcare, is sponsoring the Saturday, June 6, Half Marathon, 5k run and one-mile run/walk. Jarrod Asmus, who works at Athletic Republic and who is one of the coordinators, is among those who want to see a large contingent of people cheering on the participants as they begin the races — and be at the finish line to cheer them on, as well.

To get more people involved with this year’s event, the Giving Back Jack Band will perform Friday evening, June 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, the same location where runners can register for the races, and where the pre-registered runners will pick up their race packets.

There’s also a pasta dinner, which is open to the public, and social hour from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Grace United. The band also will perform Saturday, June 6, from 8 a.m. to noon, during the running events.

“It would be great to see people cheering for the participants at both the start and finish,” said Asmus. “People coming to watch will also be able to, in addition to hearing some good music, have a cup of coffee and obtain some food from nearby food stands.”

Family fun events will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, centered around the 1-mile run/walk.
