NYM celebrating 125th anniversary
Published 8:20am Friday, July 3, 2009New York Mills is celebrating its 125th birthday with a blow out party.
Celebrations begin Friday, July 3 with a fishing tournament, beginning at 7 a.m., with prizes announced in Central Park later in the day. Friday activities also include a noon to 1 p.m. book signing with Author William Durbin at the NYM Public Library, afternoon Lund Boat Factory tours, along with historical events at the NYM school and cultural center. At 6:30 p.m., the parade will take place, followed by a street dance. Food will be served throughout the day in Central Park.
Saturday will kick off with a breakfast, served from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the school. A golf tournament will also be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Legried’s Golf Course. Downtown, a car show will take place between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Live music, performed by Robbin Elder, will be heard throughout the day on Main Street. A 7 p.m. baseball game will be held at Smith Park, followed by a Fourth of July fireworks show.
On Sunday, burly men from around the area will flock to Smith Park for a 1:30 p.m. beard contest. A community co-ed softball game will begin at 2 p.m. in Lund Park.
