Celebrate National Senior Center Week

September is National Senior Center Week. To celebrate this molnth, members of the Fergus Falls Senior Center are asked to invite someone to the Senior Center for lunch and a tour on Thursday, Sept. 17. In other words, share the opportunities we offer at the center with a friend or neighbor who might benefit from belonging to our organization. Enjoy the music of the “Scandinavian Melodies” before the noon meal featuring barbecued chicken breast.

Events for the next couple of weeks include a free legal consultation with Attorney Jason Hastings. Appointments for his visit on Sept. 23 (beginning at 1 p.m.) may be made by calling 736-6842. This is an opportunity to receive answers to legal questions you may have relating to wills, trusts, estate planning, elder law or others.

You have heard the term, osteoporosis, and you have probably also heard that one out of every two women over age 50 will suffer an osteoporosis fracture during their lifetime. But how much do we really understand about bone loss and postmenopausal osteoporosis? On Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 10:30 a.m., Kathy Sporre will present a video, “The Inside Story on Osteoporosis.” Whether or not you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis, it is still important to learn as much as possible about its prevention and treatment.

Community Education is offering two Driver Improvement Refresher classes this month. If you have previously completed the 8-hour Driver Improvement class and are due for the 4-hour Refresher to continue the 10 percent discount on your auto insurance, you may wish to take one of the following:

Sept. 14 — 5:30-9:30 — ALC

Sept. 23 — 12:30-4:30 — Public Library

Register and pay the $18 fee in the Community Education office.

The topic of the day in the news media continues to focus on health care but there appears to be much confusion about it. We have invited Lyle Hoxtell, Otter Tail County Coordinator on Aging, to the center on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 11:15 to present a seminar on the difference between traditional Medicare and health care plans. Feel free to bring your questions for clarification.

A reminder that the deadline for registration for the Geritol Frolics trip on Oct. 18 is Sept. 18.

Tomorrow we celebrate Labor Day. The Senior Center will be closed and a noon meal will not be served.
