Ottertail city clerk retires

The Ottertail City Council is searching for a new clerk/treasurer after Clerk/Treasurer Linda Bjelland announced her early retirement last week.

Bjelland said she has spent the past 26 years working in city government, the last five in Ottertail as the clerk/treasurer.

However, she’s retiring 14 months early for health reasons. While she’s loved working in city government, it’s time “to take time for me,” she said.

Bjelland’s last day is Oct. 15. The council is scheduled to accept applications until Oct. 20, which they’ll review on Oct. 21, Bjelland said. Interviews are expected to be held the last week of October.

In the interim, Deputy Clerk Shari Wheeler will fill in as clerk. Wheeler will also serve as the notary republic after the council approved the move at its meeting Thursday.
