Steinbrenner joins FF District
Published 4:24pm Tuesday, October 6, 2009Jon Steinbrenner came to Fergus Falls three years ago for a dose of “Minnesota nice.”
Since then, Steinbrenner has come to realize the community has exactly what he was looking for.
But it wasn’t until this year that he was able to settle down in the Fergus Falls School District.
Steinbrenner worked for the Lakes Country Service Cooperative for two years before accepting a position last year to teach middle school special education in Alexandria.
While Steinbrenner enjoyed the experience, he appreciates the opportunity to work in the school district he lives in.
His position as a high school special education teacher also allows him to get to know students in a small class size setting.
“I like working with smaller groups of students who are still excited to learn new things,” he said.
Much of his time is devoted to teaching English, study skills, time management, work completion and organization.
In terms of the Fergus Falls School District, he’s noticed a healthy level of student involvement when it comes to activities around the building.
“So much of it is student driven,” he said.
Steinbrenner originally hails from Fosston, Minn. From there, he attended college at the University of North Dakota, where he earned his undergraduate degree in elementary education.
He first hit the career field as a teacher in Pierre, S.D., where he taught for four years at the Pierre Indian Learning Center, an off reservation boarding school.
That was his last position before moving to Fergus Falls and obtaining his masters degree in special education while working for Lakes Country Services Cooperative.
