WALKER—The Hillcrest girls soccer team bared the snowy conditions in Walker Monday evening to take down Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 1-0.

Comets’ leading scorer Marissa Monaceli took a quick pass from Grace Jacoby and found the back of the Walker net 20 minutes into the first half to provide the games only score.

Hillcrest (3-10) played short handed as may players missed the game because they had the flu, so Comets’ coach Amanda Deyounge turned to several underclassmen so make key contributions.

Junior Julia Miller made her first start in goal for the Comets’, recording the team’s third shutout of the season.

“Julia was very impressive tonight,” Deyounge said. “I took her aside a half hour before the game and showed her what to do, she played fearless and showed great leadership out there.”

The seventh seeded Comets prepare for round one of the Section playoffs Tuesday as they take on second seeded Fergus Falls.

“Were going to need healthy bodies and the girls to play with plenty of confidence if we want to beat a well coached Otters team,” Deyounge said.

Fergus Falls will host Tuesday’s playoff matchup that starts at 4:00.
