50 Years Ago: School Board takes step for Junior College
Published 7:10am Tuesday, November 10, 2009The Fergus Falls school board took a step toward establishing a junior college. A resolution authorizing the board to file the necessary application with the State Board of education was approved unanimously. Voters in the district would have the final say in the matter. Approval by two-thirds of the voters is required.
The State Board would have to recognize Fergus Falls as a junior college area before the matter would be submitted to the voters. Ten members of the Chamber of Commerce College Committee appeared at the board meeting and requested the action. Dan Gearhart, chairman, said the committee had voted unanimously to make the request. Other members of the chamber committee are Harold Drews, Archie Erickson, G. R. Allison, Dr. Chen-en Lu, Ed Larson, Robert Bigwood, Vern Arneson, W. Earl Williams and Robert King.
