Burglary suspect charged

A Detroit Lakes man is facing nearly a dozen criminal charges for his role in a string of burglaries in Perham in early October.

Authorities say Mitchell Keith Reller, 18, conspired with Jesse Michael Reed of Perham and Garett William Frank of Detroit Lakes, both age 19, to enter or tamper with more than 20 Perham residences Oct. 1-2. Reller is charged with nine counts of second degree burglary, one count of attempted second degree burglary and one count of fourth degree damage to property.

According to a criminal complaint, Reller admitted to authorities that he and the other suspects left Detroit Lakes Oct. 1 to go to Perham to steal gas for a vehicle. He also admitted to entering two garages and to using a stolen credit card to purchase merchandise at a Detroit Lakes retailer.

Video surveillance helped identify the suspects, who were also wanted for questioning in connection with several burglaries in Becker County.

Man charged with burglary, assault

A Fergus Falls man has been charged with first degree burglary and second degree assault for allegedly entering a home and wielding a knife at residents.

Andrew Scott Donaldson, 24, was arrested Dec. 10 after police received a report of a disturbance along the 400 block of West Spruce Street. According to a criminal complaint, Donaldson showed up at a residence intoxicated and pushed his way through a door after being asked to leave. He allegedly pulled out a 6 to 8-inch knife, threatened three residents and left the property. He later denied having a knife, according to the complaint. He was known to the victims.

Donaldson was being held in the Otter Tail County Detention Facility Tuesday. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 21.

Donaldson has a previous fifth degree assault conviction from February 2006.

Man sentenced for felony assault

A Fergus Falls man has been sentenced to 90 days in jail for assaulting a woman in September.

Charles Wesley Gilbert, 29, was sentenced Dec. 11 on one county of felony domestic assault, a charge to which he pleaded guilty in November. According to a criminal complaint, Gilbert was intoxicated when he struck a woman in the stomach at a residence on East Washington Avenue Sept. 12. As he left the residence, Gilbert punched a door, causing its window and frame to fall about 6 feet from where a child was sleeping in a play pen. Before he left the property, Gilbert punched the victim in the mouth through the open window, according to the complaint. He was arrested after police found him hiding underneath a deck.

Gilbert will receive credit for 91 days already served and must pay a $250 fine. He was convicted of child endangerment in Otter Tail County in April and has previous assault charges from Wisconsin, according to the complaint.
