Man extinguishes stove fire

A Douglas County man was able to extinguish a fire that damaged his property early Thursday.

Ritchie LaVern Johnson called authorities around 1:10 a.m. to report flames near a wood burning stove inside his house at 3011 Island Lake Road SW in Urness Township. According to the sheriff’s office, Johnson was able to douse the flames before the arrival of Hoffman firefighters, who removed a portion of a wall and the roof. The Kensington Fire Department assisted at the scene.
