INTERNATIONAL FALLS — The red-hot M-State men’s basketball team made it a perfect December Saturday afternoon, cruising past Rainy River Community College 79-54 and extending its winning streak to six games.

The Spartans — who finished 6-0 in December — had five players score at least 10 points, led by Wiley Jiles’ 14. Trevon McKee added 12, Chris Wichterman 11, Jordon Johnsrud 10 and Jerome Vaughn 10.

“We played extremely well today,” M-State coach Jason Retzlaff said. “I feel we have improved throughout the pre-Christmas schedule and are playing well right now.”

During M-State’s current winning streak, the Spartans (9-3) have won by at least 10 points in each game while scoring no fewer than 72 points.

Fergus Falls shot 43 percent from beyond the arc against Rainy River while holding the Voyageurs to 0-for-11 from downtown and 32 percent overall.

“I thought defensively we set the tone,” Retzlaff said. “We were able to cause a lot of problems with our aggressiveness.”

The Spartans forced 25 turnovers.
