Wrestling: Otters claim title
Published 9:58am Monday, December 21, 2009CASS LAKE —Buoyed by Dan Revering and Colton Thorson, the balanced Fergus Falls wrestling team claimed the 31-team Big Bear Tournament Saturday evening.
Revering was crowned the champion at 160 pounds while Thorson took home first-place honors at 215.
Revering — who defeated Cody Bue of Little Falls in the title round — registered three pins in the tournament.
Thorson won all four of his matches by fall, including the title bout with Cooper Wilson (1:23).
The Otters also had a trio of third-place finishers in Tyler Giza (103), Abbot Aho (112) and Alex Hensch (145).
Giza took down Cody Weiland of CRK 12-3 in his final match while Aho defeated Tony Selander 12-7 of Mew York Mills. Hensch won 8-4 against Coty Milhausen 8-4.
Jesse Laugen and Tylor Garding came in fourth place while Matt Laugen came in fifth.
Head coach Mark Aho called the Otters’ performance the “best team effort” of his coaching career.
Fergus Falls accumulated 209.5 total points, followed by Crookston’s 184 and Little Falls’ 173.5.
New York Mills came in fifth with 158.
The Otters are in action again Jan. 5 at Brainerd. Their next home competition isn’t until Jan. 15 versus St. Cloud Apollo.
