MOORHEAD — The over-matched Rothsay boys basketball team dropped its opening game at the Concordia College Holiday Tournament, 72-39, to Norman County East Monday afternoon.

Undersized at nearly every position on the floor, the Tigers came out with grit, but simply couldn’t match-up physically with the Eagles, getting out rebounded 30-18 while turning the ball over 24 times.

“The boys played hard today,” Rothsay coach Darren Rogness said. “We’re slowly seeing improvements in our game, but we have quite a ways to go. We’re giving up way too many (points) on the inside and not pulling down enough rebounds.”

Cody Hanneman carried the Tigers on the offensive end as the lanky 6-foot-4 forward scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. He shot 10-for-15 from the field, but turned the ball over six times and collected no assists.

Point Guard Nick Fiedler played more than 35 minutes, scoring six points on two field goals while handing out a team-best five assists,

“Cody played well, again, on the offensive end and Nick did a good job of leading us on the floor,” Rogness said.

Rothsay squares off against Ulen-Hitterdal at roughly 2 p.m. this afternoon at Concordia.
