Music igniting Campus Crusade
Published 11:25am Friday, January 15, 2010Wandering around the M State – Fergus Falls campus on a Thursday night, you may hear sounds of music echoing throughout the halls of the building.
It’s not a concert or a rowdy group of young adults blaring music —It’s likely Ignite, a meeting of Campus Crusades for Christ.
Every week, students gather together in Fireplace Lounge for an informal worship service, which generally includes music, a message and group activities.
Recognized as an official college organization, the intent of the group is to provide students of all denominations a place to gather with others who share one common faith in Christ. Students are able to build relationships with others, while participating in worship, studying the Bible and taking part in activities that promote faith and spirituality, said David Jensen, college advisor for the group.
The goal is not, however, to take the place of a students’ home church.
Speakers from around the community are regularly invited in to share with students, including pastors, teachers or other leaders.
Messages are generally geared toward young adults, allowing students to walk away with perspective and hope as they carry on through their college experience.
“It’s a place for college students to grow in their walk with God. It’s easy to miss God in the midst of a college schedule, so this can serve as a reminder to seek him,” said Pastor Eric Uggerud of Cornerstone Church, who volunteers with the group.
It also provides a welcoming atmosphere, Uggerud said, where students are able to come and learn about God.
“It can serve as a place for those who are looking to find out who God is,” Uggerud said.
The weekly meeting usually draws in around 15 to 20 students, but is not limited to a certain number of students.
The Fergus Falls group partners with Fargo-Moorhead chapters of Campus Crusade for Christ, allowing students to step outside their own campus to meet others, as well.
