Ice Racers: Week 3 results

Published 7:00am Friday, February 5, 2010

The Underwood Lions’ Ice Racer’s completed their third week of racing on January 31, 2010.  The week of racing brought fair track conditions.  However, if you missed your marks drivers found themselves skating out of control or worse glancing off snow banks that seemed like they were made of concrete.

There is quite a shake up in the Big Kids class when the snow settled.  Heat races were won by Shane Hecker #90, Ben Wolden #50, Jim Johansen #55 and Dave Holmgren #43.  Shane is a multi time Kids and Juniors Class champion.  This is his first year of competition in the Big Kids Class and his first win in the class.  Jed Schoon #79 and Jim Johansen #55 won their respective clock races.  Ron Gunderson #81 captured the checkered flag in the B-Feature.  The A Feature was a three car battle.  Jim Johansen #55 was able to put the power of his big block Olds Rocket to the ice for the victory and the clean sweep for the day.  Johansen had his hands full with Jed Schoon #79 and  Tom Hecker #97.  Schoon’s ominous black GM wagon with barking straight pipes sticking out of the hood kept pressure in Johansen’s rear bumper the majority of the race.  The bright orange of Tom Hecker’s new Orange Peel II lurked in third on a slightly different grove keeping pace with the wagons and doing what he could to make a move for the first or second position.

The two Powder Puff Racers were won by Carrie Mull #97.  Jacob Holmgren #42 in the Juniors Class and Nick Peterson #61 in the Kids Class won their races and continue their quest for the perfect season as they remain undefeated.

The green flag drops at 12:30 on Sunday in Underwood, MN.  The Underwood Lions invite you to come to Bass Lake and enjoy an afternoon of racing.  For complete point standings and more information view our website at  HYPERLINK “http://www.underwoodlionsiceracing.com” www.underwoodlionsiceracing.com.
