GLENWOOD — A monster first half and an equal-opportunity offense helped the fifth-seeded West Central Area boys basketball team advance to the quarterfinals of the Section 6-2A Tournament with 67-55 victory over fifth-seeded Minnewaska Thursday evening.
WCA takes on sixth-ranked and top-seeded Morris at 6 p.m. Saturday evening in Morris.
The Knights — who had four players score at least 12 points — strolled to a 37-20 lead at the break and never looked back.
Beau Kashmark finished with 16 points, eight rebounds, seven blocks and three assists to pace the Knights while Sam Richards added 16 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Colton Blasyck chipped in with 14 points and Bryce Olson contributed 12.
West Central ended with a 35-30 rebounding edge and forced 22 turnovers while holding the Lakers to 36 percent shooting.
“Our defense was definitely good tonight,” West Central coach Kraig Hunter said. “I thought the keys to the game were number one, holding them to one shot and number two, our point guard Logan Pfingsten knowing when to push the ball and knowing when to get us into our set offense.”
Pfingsten dished out eight assists and turned the ball over just once.
The Knights shot 48 percent from the field and made 3 of 8 shots from deep.

PEQUOT LAKES — The fifth-seeded Vikings couldn’t escape on the road against the fourth-seeded Patriots.
Pelican Rapids, which was led by Luke Halbakken’s 14 points and 10 rebounds, found itself trailing by just two points with one minute remaining in the second half, but could not find the bottom of the net the reast of the way.
The Vikings (12-15) finished with a 27-15 rebounding edge, but lost the turnover battle 17-9.
