Ever walk into a Target and wonder where they get all those sign displays?

One company that produces point-of-purchase displays is Excel Plastics based in Fergus Falls, and the company is in the middle of expanding their building space at 1021 International Drive.

“We’ve grown quickly and consistently,” Excel Plastics Co-owner and Chief Financial Officer Craig Grover said. He said the company decided the expansion was necessary when they had a busy period several months ago and didn’t have enough space.

“We knew we had work coming down the pipe and we knew we needed some more room,” he said.

The company, which opened here in 2001 and has an office in Minneapolis that opened five years ago, is constructing an additional 10,000 square feet onto their existing space for a total of 50,000 square feet, according to Grover.

The expansion will be used for more production space, where employees work on putting signs and displays together.

Grover said the displays are usually for stores to put up signs for things like sales and prices. Among their largest customers are consumer corporations like Target, Best Buy and AT&T.

The extra space will allow Excel Plastics to hire on new production employees, Grover said, adding that the company has already hired three new members for the crew.

“Most importantly it provides us more opportunity to grow, and we’re continually focused on growing our business,” he said.

After groundbreaking at the end of April, Harvey Moe and his construction crew from All Building Corporation started constructing the facility on May 16.

The outside wall panels, ceiling and concrete floor are complete, and Moe said the next step will be insulation and inside wall panels. The new space will be completed by the end of August.
