Hospice chapel dedicated

Judy Mouritsen, a volunteer at the new Lakeland Hospice House at Woodland Drive in northeast Fergus Falls, knows that the new chapel that was dedicated on Wednesday, July 21, is a place of comfort and peace for many people.

“The new chapel, with windows depicting the four seasons, offers residents and their families a tranquil setting for prayers and meditation,” said Mouritsen.

Wednesday’s dedication of the chapel took place with pastors and church representatives from throughout the region in attendance. Later, an ice cream social, open to the public, took place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the dedication of the chapel and those who helped furnish it.

Various rooms within the Lakeland Hospice House, which opened last November, have sponsors. The chapel is sponsored by Paul Lindholm and Security State Bank. The altar inside the chapel was donated by Our Lady of Victory, Fergus Falls, Knights of Columbus and stain glass windows were provided by Roger and Beverly Parks of Clitherall. Other sponsors will provide additions to the chapel in succeeding months.

The new home, which overlooks Opperman Lake, is now one of 12 Hospice houses in Minnesota.

Volunteers are welcome to help with respite care, office work, housekeeping, baking, quilting and spending time with residents.

The house accommodates residents with specially designed rooms that include balconies and televisions. Two suites, each including a private bathroom, are designed for families who may be traveling out of town to spend time with loved ones.

A family room has been created for visitors to relax with residents.

The Lakeland Hospice House is open to anyone on hospice care, but may be particularly appealing to patients who do not have a primary caregiver or whose relatives live far away.

Donors provided most of the funds for the $2.6 million facility on Woodland Drive.
