Bakke is the one responsible for the lovely planter [UPDATED]

First of all today, a correction is in order for last week’s column regarding the planter in front of the Senior Center.

Although I credited Jim and Bev Tenneson with its care this year, it has come to my attention that they took on this responsibility last year.

We thank them for their interest in flowers last year, but the person deserving the credit for the lovely planter this year is Betty Bakke.

She accepted the job of total care including selecting, purchasing, planting, weeding and fertilzing the flowers.

My apology to you, Betty Bakke, for my error.  We appreciate your contribution to the beauty of Lincoln Avenue and we thank you.

This coming week at the Senior Center, we start out with a movie tomorrow — “P.S. I Love You” will be shown at 12:45 p.m.

This is the story of a young wife who, after losing her husband to a brain tumor, is surprised to learn he has left letters behind for her to help her cope with the pain of losing him.

We wish all of our members born in August a “Happy Birthday!”

The celebration begins on Thursday with  music by Wally Doric at 11 a.m.

The last Concert in the Park for the season will also be held on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Featured music is the Tickwood String Band and the food vender is Creative Catering.

We appreciate your continuing to save your grocery receipts from SunMart for the Senior Center. We are now a litle over half-way toward our goal of $150,000 and the $1,000 bonus.
