Another riveting program planned for annual meetingPublished 11:10am Friday, September 10, 2010
Well Y’s Folks, we marveled at the program we had last month so let me tell you we are in for another “High Roller” at our noon Potluck and association meeting on Monday, Sept. 20.
Dick Werner has been living on Wright Lake since about 1972 doing a variety of things involving creating and/or promoting something or other. His BA from Bemidji State College was a major in Art Education and though he has not instructed in Art, his presentation to us will be on the craft of art carving which he has pursued recently, partly by accident or an outside interest.
This, what he calls carving, certainly is not like what my father carved — little fish, geese, pigs and horses. These look huge to me — you will be entertained.
The corporate name for his business is now called “Tag Up” and is located in a large building which is filled mostly with printers and cutters. They make locker plates for Major League and Professional football and baseball teams
from one end of America to the other.
Decals, sport signs and bag tags are made on huge machines called names I have never heard of before and they are big, up to 54 inches wide or long. One is called a “flatbed cutter.”
It doesn’t look at all like the flatbed we hauled hay bales on out in South Dakota. Ask Dick to tell
you about this program too.
He has a job for all 23 of his employees which includes all three of their sons, the twins Kris and Kurt here in town and young Dan works out of the Metro area.
Dick found wife Judy at College and went up to Hallock, Mn. to marry her in a ceremony performed by Chaplin Lauren Youndale who we know here in Fergus Falls.
You will enjoy the program, come bring a friend. Ron Burt, Orlin Fick and Larry Zenner are co-chairing the Y’s Folk Flap Jack Feed on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at the YMCA. Many members are involved organizing, selling tickets ($5 pre sale) and signing up to serve the many hungry people. Mark your calendar.
School Age (after school) Child Care K – 6th grade started at the Y with the beginning of school. Volley-ball starts the end of October. Parents Night Out — just drop the kids off at the Y and go out for a good time in the evening between 6 and 10 p.m.
The swimming pool is open, the water is warm, bring your suit and come on in. Cindy Johnson can teach you how to swim or lead you around.
For more activity going on at the Y, look up your 2010 fall and winter program guide that came out in the mail the middle of August.
Remember we play cards on Monday afternoons, both whist and bridge, bring a friend.
