Brook trout regulation change for Kabekona River to be discussed

Regulations for catching brook trout in the Kabekona River near LaPorte will be the subject of a Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) public meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, at the LaPorte public school meeting room, 315 Main St. West.

DNR fisheries is considering proposals to change the regulation for brook trout in the Kabekona River to either catch and release only on a portion of the river or to implement a protected-slot length limit on the entire river.

Staff will provide information about the trout fishery, regulation proposals and solicit comments about whether to proceed with a regulation change.

For those unable to attend the local meeting, there also will be an open house from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the DNR Headquarters, 500 Lafayette Road, in St. Paul. Staff will be available to take comments on the regulation.
