Gerald Langlie, 74, Blaine

Gerald N. (Gary) Langlie, 74, of Blaine, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, at Unity Hospital in Fridley.

Gerald Langlie

Gary was born Dec. 16, 1935, in Eagle Lake Township, rural Ashby, to Ernest and Bertha (Thornberg) Langlie.

He was baptized and confirmed at Pelican Lake Lutheran Church in Ashby. Gary attended Country School District No. 114, graduating from Ashby High School in 1953.

He worked various jobs for a few years, then moved to Fargo to work, where he met his dear wife, Darlene.

On Aug. 25, 1958, he married Darlene Odegaard in Dalton. Following their marriage, Gary entered the Army on Sept. 18, 1958, being discharged Sept. 12, 1960. During that time, he served his duty in Germany as a truck vehicle mechanic.

He then returned to Minneapolis where he worked at his old job at Minneapolis Tank for 10 years, then worked for Univac for two years.

His final job was head of maintenance for Medtronic, retiring after 27 years in 1996.

On Sept. 12, 1961, they became the proud parents of a son, Michael Neal.

After retiring, Gerald purchased property in Englewood, Fla., where he and Darlene became snowbirds from January to mid April. He truly enjoyed the warmth and sunshine.

His biggest joy was scraping, he would take apart engines and other pieces of metal to separate it for precious metals that he sold. Gary also enjoyed fishing.

He, along with his siblings maintained his parents home and farm after they passed. He was the primary mechanic and builder putting in much work to keep it operating and so beautiful.

One of his final desires, was to get back before he died. He will certainly be there in our memories.
