Tailgate Party to kick off football season [UPDATED]

Published 5:49am Wednesday, September 1, 2010 Updated 6:59am Wednesday, September 1, 2010

Lakes Radio is sponsoring a tailgate party before the first football game on Friday, September 3 starting at 5 p.m., with the Otters taking on St. Cloud Apollo at 7 pm.  Please park in the Kennedy Secondary School’s Student/Activities Entrance parking lot near the tennis courts. Hot dog, chips and pop will be sold for $2.50 at the Otter Plaza near the activities entrance with proceeds benefiting the District 544 Student Activity Fund.  Tours of Kennedy Secondary School will begin at the Student/Activities Entrance starting at 5 pm and run every half hour – with the last tour beginning at 6:30 p.m. Each tour will last about 30 minutes.

KSS Grounds

If you have been by the Kennedy Secondary School in the past couple of weeks you have noticed the dramatic change to the grounds around the building. The four parking lots are now completed and painted.  Much of the grounds have been leveled and seeded.

Another dramatic change was the tiling of the old baseball field.  The School District would like to thank Matt Jennen, Brent Jennen, Wayne Miller, Levi Stenerson and Steve Stenerson for not only providing the labor, but also the equipment to complete the work.  This was a tremendous cost savings to the District, along with solving a major drainage issue that has plagued the field for years.  The next step is to level and re-seed the field so it becomes a playable green space next fall.  This field will be a multi-use field for physical education classes and practices.

Open Houses – Thursday, September 2

The focus of our open houses is to make our students feel comfortable during the first days of school.  We want them to meet their teachers, find their locker and their way around the buildings.  Open houses in our Adams (Grades 1-2) and Cleveland (Grades 3-5) Schools are from 5-7 pm.

New student orientation for grades 7-12 is scheduled for 3 pm at Kennedy Secondary School, grade 6 new student orientation follows at 4 pm.  Students in grades 6-8 will meet in the auditorium – grade 6 at 5 pm, grade 7 at 6 pm, and grade 8 at 7 pm.

The 9th and 10th grade students will have a short presentation and tour starting in Main Entrance Foyer at 6 pm with 11th-12th grade students scheduled at 7 pm.  Students will be able to pick up their schedules, locker number and locker combination at the open house.

Additional Student Bus Drop Off Site

After meeting with city officials, we have added one additional drop off for students on Randolph Avenue located near the visitor parking lot entrance.   Students may be dropped off at the sidewalk that leads to the bus transfer site.  Principal Colbeck will be assisting parents and students at this location.  Parents must not let students out of their vehicle until they reach the sidewalk.  This drop off is in addition to the Main Entrance Visitor parking lot and Student/Activities parking lot.

During after school pick up, we will not allow students to walk through any parking lots or cross the street unless it is at a designated crosswalk.  Please follow these procedures so all students will be safe.
