Lake Region Electric employees put out grass fire

An Otter Tail County sheriff’s officer received a bit of unexpected help late Wednesday morning when he responded to the scene of a grass fire.

Just before noon, the officer responded to a small grass fire that had recently started on the east side of County Highway 3, near US Highway 59. Pelican Rapids firefighters were paged to the scene, but before they could arrive, some employees from Lake Region Electric in Pelican Rapids stopped to see if they could help the officer.

Since the fire was still in its early stages, the employees and the sheriff’s officer were able to put the fire out by shoveling soil onto it. The fire was out before firefighters arrived.
