Yes, there is a new name and face attached to this column today. Delores Saurer has decided to lay down her pen after several faithful years of reporting the news for the Fergus Falls Senior Center.

My name is Jean Lemmon. I have been a member of the Senior Center for more than a year. I moved to Fergus Falls from Wahpeton, N.D., in September 2009.

I was a former teacher, newspaper reporter and residential director of the girls’ residence halls on the NDSCS campus in Wahpeton.

The Senior Center is my second home. There is so much going on, so let’s get started.

December is the holiday month. On Monday, Dec. 20, you can attend a holiday party with us at the Senior Center at 1 p.m. There will be special entertainment by the Haining Family and refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to this “free” party and registration is not necessary.

This month’s birthday celebration is on Thursday, Dec. 16. Entertainment will be by DC and Hawk at 11 a.m. If you plan to stay for the noon meal, you must register a day in advance.

December movies are “Fireproof” on Monday, Dec. 6 and “A Christmas Carol” on Monday, Dec. 27. “Fireproof” is an inspirational drama about a firefighter whose marriage is on the rocks and a 40-day experiment that hopefully will renew the couple’s love for one another.

Movies are shown at 12:45 p.m.

Christmas crafts and Christmas carols are on the agenda for a visit with our third-grade “Adopt-a-Class” from Cleveland School. The 25 students will be at the Senior Center on Dec. 13 at 1:15 p.m. Refreshments and special gift bags for the students will be provided. Registration is needed for seniors who plan to attend.

Attorney Jason Hastings will visit the Senior Center on Dec. 22. Appointments for free consultations will be scheduled at 1 p.m. to help answer legal questions such as wills, trusts, estate planning, elder law and more. Call 736-6842 to schedule a free consultation.

Health insurance and drug plan counseling is available on Tuesday, Dec. 14 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. A representative from the Land of the Dancing Sky Area Agency on Aging will be available to assist with health insurance plan selections and online enrollment.

Appointments aren’t necessary, but bring a list of all current medications. Open enrollment continues through Dec. 30.

The Senior Center holiday hours: the center will be closed on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31, though noon meals will be served on those days.

Jean Lemmon is a member of the Senior Citzens Center Program in Fergus Falls.
