Free flu shots at Walgreens [UPDATED]
Published 4:12pm Monday, December 13, 2010 Updated 8:27am Tuesday, December 14, 2010If you haven’t gotten your flu shot for 2011 yet, Wednesday, Dec. 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. might be the best time for you. For those three hours, the Fergus Falls Walgreens will be giving out 200 free flu shots, first come, first serve.
The flu shots will be available to those who have flu shot vouchers, which will be passed out inside of Walgreens by members of the American Lung Association, which donated the shots. The shots are part of 5,000 free flu shots donated to 30 different Walgreens stores around the state.
Local Store Manager Christopher Fritz said the Fergus Falls Walgreens likely received the shots because of expected demand. Last year, the store gave out more flu shots than any of the other 24 stores in his district.
“The demand here is better, and we know we can give them in an efficient manner,” Fritz said.
The store was given notice that they would be recipients of the flu shots last week, so it has not had much time to let people know.
“It’s really short notice to the community, but we’re going to see what we can do,” said Fritz.
Even if you can’t make it to Walgreens on Wednesday, the store gives flu shots every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Though flu season won’t start until early 2011, the vaccine takes a couple of weeks to reach peak effectiveness.
“Any time is good to get a flu shot, because they last a year,” said Fritz.
