Sand Lake public meeting scheduled for Jan. 18

DETROIT LAKES, Minn.— The Minnesota Department of Transportation invites area residents and landowners to a public meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 18, regarding possible Sand Lake outlet alternatives. The public meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Dunn Township Hall, 47979 East Lake Lizzie Road, Pelican Rapids. A short presentation will take place at 6 p.m.

As the water in Sand Lake continues to rise, Mn/DOT is looking at ways to protect Highway 59 from future flooding. One of the approaches they are considering is to create an outlet for the lake. Through a study of the area around Sand Lake, Mn/DOT and Houston Engineering have identified alternative outlet options.

The public is invited to the meeting to learn about the alternatives and discuss them with representatives from state, county and local agencies:

If you are unable to attend the public meeting, contact Bridget Miller, Mn/DOT Hydraulics Engineer, with questions or comments at bridget.miller@state.mn.us or 218-846-3619.
